WORD DOGS VI (The Glasgow Spoken Word Writers Event), 3rd December 2008

WHAT IS WORD DOGS?
It’s a twice-annual spoken word event held in Glasgow, where professional writers and newcomers alike read aloud tales. So essentially mad tales and alcohol (alcohol if you are in age, of course).

WHEN IS WORD DOGS?
3rd December 2008, at 8pm.

WHERE IS WORD DOGS?
For the 4th consecutive time, Word Dogs is proud to announce it will be held in the 13th Note, Glasgow City Centre (opposite the car park at King Street!).

WHO CAN SUBMIT TO WORD DOGS?
Anyone who can write and feels they can read what they write to an audience. It can be anything – poetry, prose, the only limitations are your imagination and the (very loosely fitting) theme of the night.

BUT WHAT ABOUT ME?
Sure. Give it a shot. Send us your best piece you feel fits in with the night. What have you go to lose? (Although, do try to make sure you can be in Glasgow on the night in question!)

BUT I HAVE NO PRIOR WRITING CREDITS….
So what? Rome wasn’t built in a day. Talent always starts at one point. You think you have it – try us out. The worst we can do is say no (and even then, we’re rather nice about it).

I DON’T LIVE IN GLASGOW. CAN I STILL SEND SUBMISSIONS IN?
If you can attend the show, and can write, submissions are accepted from anyone.

SO WHERE CAN I SEND MY SUBMISSIONS TO?
khaibitshadow@googlemail.com
or
michaelthepoet@hotmail.com

I DON’T WANT TO SUBMIT, BUT I AM INTERESTED. CAN I STILL ATTEND THE ACTUAL EVENT?
Of course. The more the merrier. The event itself will be advertised before the end of November, so no worries there. Come and join in the fun!

HOW ARE THE EDITORS?
We’re fine, thank you.

WHO ARE THE EDITORS?
Well, I’m Michael S. Collins, I review for the Fortean Times, write for Bob Furnell’s various mags, and am currently writing my first novel (in time).
Rich Mosses is a freelance writer, who does reviews and has had stories published – “Nelson’s Blood” in particular.
Ian Hunter is also a freelance writer.
Previous editors of the Junta have included award-winning author Hal Duncan (of Vellum fame) and Neil Williamson, editor of Nova Scotia and plays piano for idiosyncratic power trio Murnie (currently working on
their debut album).

AND WHAT WILL I GET AT WORD DOGS?
Fun, a few laughs, some drinks and maybe some new friends. A chance to meet some of the most highly rated Glasgow (and Scottish) writers around.

AND WHAT IS THE THEME OF THE NIGHT?
Invasion. From parasitic infestation, to troops on the streets. Fears, threats, probes. Horrific nightmare to heroic resistance, terrorist attack to plague cure. We are looking for submissions for the next Word Dogs event around the theme of Invasion. Interpret that in any way you feel suitable.
So basically, anything as long as it can very loosely be fitted into that theme. (My main idea concerns aliens’ time travelling to see the World Cup final…so that shows you just HOW loose the idea can
be…and why fantastical. You can have kitchen-sink invasions if you so like…invasions of privacy perhaps? Just have fun!)

AND WHAT IS THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS?
Ah, glad you asked that.
Deadline for submissions: 18th November 2008

SO REMIND ME, WHERE DO I SEND SUBMISSIONS TO AGAIN?
Please submit submissions to michaelthepoet@hotmail.com (that being
me, for my sins), or khaibitshadow@googlemail.com (That being Rich
Mosses), or Ian Hunter ihunter24601@hotmail.com.

AND IF I HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS?
Kindly send them to the email addresses above and we will be glad to help you.

Take care (and we look forward to your submissions, or just seeing you in December),

Michael S. Collins
Rich Mosses
Ian Hunter

Us and Them

Posted in events, Uncategorized with tags on January 21, 2008 by worddogs

Our next event is on Wednesday 6th of February, in the 13th Note on King Street, Glasgow. £2 on the door. Event starts at 7.30pm.

Are you with Us? Or are you one of Them.

Differences abound everywhere: political, sexual, economic, racial, religious, cultural, sporting. Entertain Us with the rivalries of siblings, cities, countries, worlds. Shed light on what They are really like, because, frankly, We just don’t understand Them at all. Who is that beautiful stranger? A threat, a rival, an ally, a saviour?

Transhumans vs White Trash, Criminals vs Politicos, Aliens vs The Dead. Aren’t we all the same under the skin anyway? Well we know We are, but They’re not.
